The first week of the Open Studio event went well and we’ve had lots of lovely visitors, many finding the site for the first time. Its always a joy to see people’s reaction when they discover this wonderful, historic site. The rain on Saturday didn’t dampen spirits too much and we had a lovely group from Mexico who seemed to buy all their gifts for friends from the shop!
One more week to go and the sun is set to shine all week so we look forward to meeting new people and showing visitors the icons and explaining a little about this ancient technique of creating story boards on gessoed wooden panels using natural pigment and egg yolk (tempera).
